Covid 19 Adjustments  at YMCA Camp Ingersoll

As times continue to change we understand that camp will need to change a bit as well. Below is a summary of what we expect some of the changes may be for this summer due to Covid-19. We will continue to update this going forward so please be sure to check back regularly. Please call 860-342-2267 x2 with any questions.

We believe we will bring back 5 buses with limited capacity. There will still be stops near all communities that were served before. There will be a charge to ride the bus, around $20 per session per camper. We strive to help those families who cannot attend because of transportation an opportunity for camp. If a family qualifies for Open Doors Financial assistance, the bus fee is waved.

We are planning to bring back extended AM/PM care from 7-9 AM and 4-6PM. Campers have to choose both AM/PM care. We will do our best to assign campers with this option to the same group. However, we do believe campers will be grouped in AM/PM Care by Unit. Younger's campers will be with other Younger's campers. With this change, we are now able to register campers in Specialty Camps into AM/PM Care, as they will be grouped together. The max group size is still limited to 20 campers.

We anticipate parent drop off / pick up to continue to be the most popular method of arrival and departure. We will adjust drop off / pick up times to accommodate the buses this year.

We are limiting capacity of camp as a whole but we will be allowing for specialty camps with multiple counselors to expand past the limit of 10 campers last year. Our ratios for Traditional Camps will stay consistent with previous year's: Wees = 1/6, Kiddy Camp = 1/8, all other traditional camps = 1/12. Specialty Camps may have up to 20 campers while still following the 1/12 ratio. As of now, groups will still be distanced from other groups.

Campers will have the opportunity to swim once a day, every day at camp. Half of the swimming time will be free swim, while the other half will be instructional activities.

All counselors will carry their own supply of hand sanitizer and cleaning solution. All rooms, tables, equipment, and areas will be cleaned after group use. Extra cleaning and sanitizing procedures have been developed to ensure that camp is as safe as possible for campers, staff, and families. Based on feedback from parents and staff- this policy was highly effective last year and we are confident with another summer of pactice that we can continue the greay success we had last summer.

All Camp families must sign a waiver prior to the start of the session acknowledging the additional risk that coming to camp entails because of Covid 19.

Family nights are a wonderful way to connect families to camp while meeting counselors and spending quality time as a family. We are working hard to bring family nights back for families that are attending that session of camp. We will continue to keep families updated here. Preliminary dates are:

Thursday, July 8th

Thursday, July 22nd

Thursday, August 5th

Our camp day consists of eight 45- minute periods shared among swim lessons, specialty areas, lunch, free swim and counselor planned activities. All tribes visit one specialty area a day. Trained facilitators lead each area in fun and engaging activities to promote skill and character development. Swim lessons take place every morning for Traditional Camps and a few Specialty Camps.

After lunch, every tribe participates in free swim. Campers can choose to swim or play in the recreation area. Counselor-led camp games and activities are based on age, interest and availability in the schedule. Feel free to ask your camper's counselor about the weekly schedule when you receive your first day phone call!
